We run refrigerated freight between Utah, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washignton. We specialize in bringing fresh produce back to Salt Lake for restaurants and grocery stores.

Our History

Desert Star Transportation was founded in 1996 by Harmon and Paula Butterfield. With more than 10 years in the trucking industry Harmon purchased his first truck and trailer and Desert Star was born.  Harmon started as an owner operator but soon started adding trucks and drivers to the fleet as circumstances permitted.  By the year 2000 the fleet had grown to five trucks and Desert Star had become a full family endeavor.  Harmon and Paula’s five children all contributed to sustain and help the company grow. From helping with paperwork in the office to washing trucks and doing routine maintenance on the equipment, all five children helped with the work that needed to be done.

Today Desert Star has 27 trucks and nearly 50 trailers. Three of Harmon and Paula’s children work full time for the family business.  Desert Star has tried to create a driver focused opportunity for our drivers to make a good living and still be home every week.  We mainly run the west coast of the U.S. and most drivers are able to be home 3 nights a week if they live in the Salt Lake Valley.  We also have drivers that live in Las Vegas and Phoenix and we make sure that the drivers make it home as often as they need to balance their individual needs. We specialize in bringing fresh produce back to Salt Lake for local restaurants and grocery stores. We strive to be a company that our customers can count on to deliver their freight on-time every time.  We know that our drivers are the most important aspect of our company and we employ professional drivers that we can count on.  We have been trucking for 25 years and we are working to be a company that our drivers can continue to call home for the next 25 years!  We are constantly looking for good drivers that love trucking to join  our team.
